    Housing Information
    Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH) gives active service members two options for housing; living on base or finding a home off-base within the community.

    • Once you have orders to move, contact the Housing Management Office  (803) 895-2422. They can answer all of your housing questions and provide services such as referrals, resolving tenant-landlord disputes, and guidance for entering lease agreements.

    • For single airmen with less than 3 years of service within the rank of E1-E4, contact The Unaccompanied Housing Office (803) 895-5627.

    • On-base housing for blank blank is privatized and provided by Hunt Military Communities  (844) 230-8752, which offers 3-4 bedroom, pet-friendly single family homes based on rank and family size. Home amenities may include: washer/dryer hookups, fenced yards and central heating/AC. Communities feature a fitness center, playgrounds, parks and more.

    Surrounding Areas
    Sumter, South Carolina, is the closest major city to Shaw AFB. Sumter has about 41,000 people. There are also several nearby small towns including Oakland, Dalzell, Cherryvale, Wedgefield, Wedgewood, and Cape Savannah, all with a few thousand people or fewer. It is about 20 minutes from downtown Sumter to Shaw. Sumter is a small city, in a green, wooded, fairly flat plain area. The area is humid and warm with mild winters and "Famously Hot" summers
